Dear Democracy Defenders,

If you’re like us, your inbox is probably stuffed with Giving Tuesday messages and is full of donation requests, giving deadlines, and matching gift offers. It’s a lot! And it’s important.

Working together to resist MAGA Republican authoritarianism, we often focus on the “big” fights like elections, federal legislation, and court battles. That work is vital, but as you know, we also focus on the importance of local community.

Democracy is built on local resilience and thrives when communities are strong enough to weather storms, literal or political. When we support local nonprofits, we are investing in the kind of mutual community trust that authoritarianism works to erode. Areas with thriving libraries, a full food bank, robust youth programs, housing safety nets, and more are areas where people are secure enough to engage civically and work toward each other’s interests.

So, this Giving Tuesday, if you are moved to give, we invite you to view your donation not as charity, but rather as an investment in civic infrastructure.

Support the organizations that keep your neighborhood glued together. When we help our neighbors to survive and thrive, we are doing the hard and necessary work of democracy.

In solidarity,

WDDP Leadership

P.S. We are organizing a WDDP volunteering event soon! Check out the details below.
