On November 3, Wisconsinites will be asked to vote on 3 proposed constitutional amendments.
The language for all three ballot questions is misleading and vague. The League of Women Voters (LMV) of Wisconsin has endorsed a “No” vote on all three items.
1. Governor’s partial veto amendment: Prohibiting the governor’s partial veto to increase tax or fees
- Vote NO because the amendment could unnecessarily restrict public funding of priority programs through taxes or other resources, and disrupt the balance of powers in state government.
2. Worship during emergencies amendment: Prohibiting closure of places of worship in response to a state emergency
- Vote NO because it would limit the government’s ability to restrict religious gatherings during emergency situations, including dangerous disease outbreaks or other public health threats.
3. Government “preferential treatment” amendment: Prohibiting governmental entities in the state from discriminating against, or granting preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, public education, public contracting, or public administration
- Vote NO because it could undo decades of programs designed to advance equity an ensure fair access to public employment, education, health care, and more.
Help the League of Women Voters and WDDP spread the word about these three amendments. Don’t let your friends, family, and others in your network be caught unprepared in the voting booth!
